Bullying has been an issue for many years, but over the last few years it has become an issue for everyone not just for school age children. The time has come for us to stand together as a united front to make it stop! Bullying affects everyone not just the victims. It affects everyone around them. These numbers are increasing because of the lack of self respect and respect for others. We can take a stand against bullying and encourage others instead of being disrespectful. I believe that we can put an end to bullying by using the BRAVE (Building Respect Acceptance and Voice through Education) campaign.
RESPECT is a word that we know and we should all practice. I have learned a few things I’d like to share with you. Respect does not mean you have to like everyone. You may not be given the respect you deserve, but you should always put your best foot forward. It’s ok to disagree with other people’s thoughts and beliefs, but you should treat them with the respect and dignity you wish to receive in return. In the Bible 1 Peter 2:17 reads, ¨Self-respect means you recognize your own worth as a human being and avoid anything that will damage your mind, body, or integrity.¨ This means you should do your best no matter who is watching because what you do reveals who you are.
Showing respect is more a statement about the person we are. Showing others respect protects our integrity and honor. Giving respect to others and allowing them to be themselves shows belief in another's potential.
Respecting yourself means honoring and defining your own worth and value as a human being. Think about this: If you do not respect yourself, it will be more difficult for others to respect you. It all begins with you.
