Girls Who Give - Service with a Heart

I am so excited to begin my new adventure as TCM Intern this year. I can’t wait to share about volunteerism and create video promos during 2019. I am a sixth grader at Nebo Elementary School in Jena, LA. Pageants are my passion! I enjoy volunteering and shooting sports. I have been a part of the TCM family for three years, and it has helped me grow as an experienced speaker, pageant girl, team player, and a person who wants to lead by example.

I have always loved volunteering and being a part of a group that gives back to my community. I guess you could say I started at a very young age. I started collecting pencils for my Sunday school class to send to Honduras to an orphanage when I was 6.

It has been over 6 years now, and I have learned that giving comes from the heart. I was honored to tell my story on KALB Jambalaya. My social media page was recognized by Carmen Michelle, who was the News anchor.

I knew I wanted to create my own platform where I could get others involved in volunteerism. My mom and I talked about different organizations, but I loved them all. So I came up with the name, Girls Who Give. Girls Who Give, helps me reach out to other girls just like me and invite them to participate

in activities that help our community. I think it is important to lead by example. My beautiful GWG log, is a butterfly!

Each year, I love to help fill backpacks with school supplies for the new school year. Backpacks are given to all students who don’t have supplies in our parish at the beginning of school each year. I have been collecting bottle caps for the past 2 years. I have over 10,000 bottle caps. I plan to turn these caps into Caps for Love, to help fund wheelchairs for children. This past year, I visited my local Manna House and served a Sunday lunch to the homeless. It was such a blessing, and I can’t wait to go back. My TCM family volunteers together every year for the Autism walk.

There are so many opportunities for someone to volunteer. I recently had the

opportunity to volunteer for the Krewe of Mutts, helping CAAWS with Ms. Erin Husbands, the reigning Elite Miss Louisiana. We had a blast supporting

our animal friends. I even had my sweet dog Gracie along for all the fun.

Last year, I set a goal to complete 1,000 service hours. I won the Heart Service Award, You Make A Difference Award, and The Louisiana Volunteer’s Service Award. The Louisiana Volunteer Service award means so much to me because, I was recognized by the Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, for

my service to Louisiana.

As Mary Poppins once said, “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun." Don’t forget to have fun when you are volunteering and making a difference. Enjoy what you are doing with your whole heart.
